San Jose are getting the way younger better defensively (not that chabot is that great defensively anyways) dman on a pretty solid contract. I understand their is a lot of retention but Karlsson is unlikely to repeat the season he just had.

Any competitive team requires their dman to be somewhat liable in their own zone, San Jose were so bad defensively already that they said screw it let’s just run 4 forwards which resulted in the stats Karlsson had.


Ottawa would once again be let down by their defence on trying to push for playoffs as the vast majority of guys are offensive minded. Chychrun is good defensively but not good enough to carry the complete lack of defensive awareness karlsson has.
