What is the logic behind the Kapanen-Beauvillier swap? Both are expiring. At least Kapanen is cheaper, faster and can play PK.

He's not as good offensively as Beauvillier, and he's not exactly a great penalty killer. If Beauvillier is too expensive to sign long-term, Vancouver might not be oppose to the idea of downgrading laterally

Hakanpaa was a great bottom 4 piece on Dallas and had some underrated metrics. I don't think they'd pay him and a second to downgrade to a washed Myers even if he has retention. That's insane. Hakanpaa is already better and they are essentially paying a second to downgrade.

The Yotes trade is meh, whatever. I doubt they'd be interested in a career AHL D in Rathbone after they just acquired Dermott to fill a bottom pairing role.

St. Louis probably passes because Beau has a small sample size. Kapanen was looking pretty solid in their middle 6 so I think they opt to keep him and try to get him to bounce back.

Absolutely take advantage and sell high on Beau's random post-deadline production, but he does nothing for the Blues.

Are the Blues retooling or rebuilding? If the former, than Beauvillier absolutely can do SOMETHING for them

Hakanpaa is NOT better than Myers. Hakanpaa can't skate, Myers can, therefore being able to transport the puck better, despite both players possessing average to below average hockey IQ. Hakanpaa can hit, but not to an extent that moves the needle significantly. Rathbone is just there for AHL depth, he's of no consequence to Travis Dermott, be realistic for god sake. Beauvillier didn't just turn on after coming to Vancouver, he was already better than Kapanen before this last season during his long Island days

I'm being pretty realistic. Hakanpaa is still useful as a bottom 4 RHD, Myers is washed and is like 5% of the player he USED to be. Dallas doesn't touch that trade with a ten foot pole.

You're making them pay a 2nd for a downgrade and to take on more cap. Doesn't make sense.

Myers numbers are largely a product of Boudreau being an idiot of a coach, there is definitely a better player in there. Hakanpaa was benefitting from a little bit of Bowness indoctrination as well as the Deboer bump, but he's still part of why Dallas's back end isn't completely balanced

Also, Beau has always been a 30ish point middle 6 winger on the Isles, and Kapanen has produced the similar numbers. What difference between the two equates a 3rd? Beau's random short sample post-TDL performance? Kapanen has done fine on the Blues too. Neither team makes that move.

Wouldn't that still make Hakanpaa better? Dallas isn't paying 3M this season and a 2nd to replace Hakanpaa with a worse version of him. They will keep the dman making 1.5m who has done well in their system.

The metrics indicate Hakanpaa has done well in their system and has kept that bottom 4 afloat.

Myers will be owed less actual cash than Hakanpaa by the time the trade deadline rolls around

Not true, from 2018 to 2022 he was a 40ish point player

That doesn't change the cap hit situation. They can't afford Myers, even with retention. They will opt to keep the cheaper, better dman that has fit their system, lol.

He's obviously not cheaper as I just explained, still not sold that he's better either

Aside from pace, Beau has actually never hit 40pts in his career.

Hakanpaa has meshed better as a bottom 4 dman in Dallas's system. He's done well in his role. Myers, in a top 4 role, has been terrible. Half the player he used to be and looks like an ECHL defenseman. Now, can Myers do well in that bottom 4 role? That's a big "what if". But right now, Hakanpaa is the better defenseman.

Myers was only bad in a top four role for half his time in Vancouver if you actually looked closely, you only just remember the bad better than you do the good

What "good" am I not remembering from Myers time in Vancouver? When has he ever been "good"? In Buffalo?

I'm simply saying he's not better than Hakanpaa, which is still true. Myers stinks.

Myers is still very much an NHL defenseman, he only looks that way because he was asked to play 20+ minutes. If he was playing 15-17 minutes a night, LIKE Hakanpaa, he'd look better Hakanpaa, take that to the bank

Was Myers not good in Winnipeg? Oh, btw, he's a former Calder winner. He was good in the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons for Vancouver

I don't really know what to tell you. He has been abysmal in a top 4 role, barely NHL caliber. If you want to hold his value over a calder trophy he won over a decade ago, be my guest. Just don't act like a team will pay a premium for him.
