I like Fabbri. Always liked his compete level. Unfortunately, with his 3 knee surgeries and 2 years at 4 mil AAV left, he has next to no value.

Even when you consider Fabbri has very little trade value, Detroit is still giving up more than they did for DeBrincat who is 2yrs younger. It's also worth pointing out that Yzerman was unwilling to give up Berggren in the trade for Debrincat. Berggren put up 15g - 13a = 28 points in his first season in the NHL and he did this playing in the bottom 6.

Now Arizona can probably get more Schmaltz but it doesn't make a lot of sense for Detroit either. Both teams decline.

They probably shouldn't be able to get more for schmaltz. He's reportedly quite bad defensively

Yes it probably is. Schmaltz is almost a point per game player his past 2 seasons on a bad team. Debrincat hasnt proved he can produce at that level since he played with Kane (Im a huge cat fan, just making a point). He's also on a cheaper contract than Debrincat. He will have his contract expiring right as Danielson or Kasper is ready to fill that 2C role. The bottom line is that we need more scoring, and he can bring that. As far as defensively, I think our bottom lines can finally start to matchup and shut top lines down. But you can't argue that Schmaltz is bad defensively, then turn around and praise Debrincat. They both bring much needed offense, and our depth will be what shuts other teams down.
