Pens aren't trading 2 1sts. And Sharks aren't taking back 2 cap dumps plus 4 mil in retention. Works out to 15.25 mil.

Grier will take back 1 Cap dump and 3-3.5 mil retention in my opinion.

So much speculation, it’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out… if it actually does.

The thing is PIT will have to pay up to
A) get EK with any amount of retention, and
B) clear enough other cap space, either to SJS or another team.

To think they wouldn’t give up at least two 1st’s to accomplish both of those seems unlikely.

Sharks will be better off keeping Karlsson if they're taking that much money. I believe Sharks ownership is all over the retention number. No owner wants to pay a player to win Norris Trophies for another team.

Sharks know they'll have to take a cap dump and retain some Salary. But this is unrealistic. Karlsson is under contract for 4 more years. Grier isn't going to make a stupid trade and get himself fired.

Grier originally said he'll retain 2.3 mil and take no cap dumps. But we know that's just round 1 of negotiations. Start low and end up in the middle. But going from 2.3 to 4 isn't happening.

If Grier won’t move off that 2.3 number and won’t take back enough in other contracts from PIT then I think a deal is dead. I just don’t see a 3rd team eating a significant % for 4 years.

I find it hard to believe the Sharks would retain AND take back any kind of cap dump.
