Sharks 2-3 years from now

Created by: Ghost789
Team: 2025-26 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2023
Published: Aug. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The amount of Cap space the Sharks will have in 3-4 years from now will be ridiculous. They have great prospects in the pipeline that will be ready to go and start competing for a playoff spot again much like the 20+ years from 1997-2019.

People who know what a rebuild is understand why they made this trade.

Sharks need a 2027-28 option on ACgm because that's their aim assuming any assets accumulated now will start to be something if draft picks work out.

Yup, cuz you know Toronto and Florida will not be able to afford either of them soon and they’ll likely want to make the most $$$ in their primes and play for a younger team. Sharks will have the cap space to sign whoever they want.

I think 25/26-26/27 seasons will be when u start to see Sharks take a big step and compete for a wild card/playoff spot. Will Smith and a lot of their top European prospects will be ready to go by then.

Prospect pool is pretty light. Smith, Eklund, Bordeleau, Chmelevski, Shakir and Thrun are the guys that stand out. After that, I'm not thinking of any major standouts. But that's hockey, guys come up. Maybe 26-27 if things really go well with Smith and Co.

I would not call that “light” there’s many teams that don’t have any grade A prospects and you just named 3-4 of them for the Sharks.

Bystedt, Musty and Coe are also 3 guys who have very good bottom 6 potential as well. It’s not just the goal scorers that you need but productive bottom end guys who kill penalties, play a 2 foot game and can be aggressive on the forecheck. When SJ had their 2016 run their bottom 6 guys were exactly that way. Every team that wins a cup wins due to their depth because those 3-4 games during the playoffs when your top line guys aren’t showing up is when you need the unsung hero’s to step up.

I agree, meant in terms of quantity. Coe seems like someone who needs a couple years but will get there. And goaltending idk if their future goaltender is in the system currently.

laugh Ekblad and Marner aren't leaving cup contending teams for the likes of San Jose. I'm sure that Aaron Ekblad is just dying to leave no tax Florida for high tax California. And you're at least $1,000,000 AAV shy on Mitch Marner.

Has nothing to do with “wanting to leave” and everything to do with the team having enough cap space to pay em.. neither Toronto nor Florida will have the space for those guys.

Again, neither of those players is leaving their cup-contending teams to go hang out in hockey purgatory for the first 2-3 years of those deals while SJ figures itself out.
And neither of their respective teams would just walk away from the players. They would move out whatever other contracts they had to to make sure they retained them.
