Not sure how this helps Leafs. If Murray remains on LTIR all season, he doesn't hurt/help the Leafs cap.
Sure the Leafs 2.6m with there exchange or Petry and Brodie. But worth a a first?

We take off of your hand almost 10m$ (even with LTIR) give you a good 2nd goalie cap controled 50% of Petry for 2 seasons and add a good youngster still looking for an nhl spot. You might think it's heavy to ask a 1st, but I think this will help Leafs long term.

It's almost funny when you think that this trade is the equivalent of Hoffman half retained plus Ylonen for Brodie, Murray and a 1st

Murray was good to go in May. That's wishful thinking to believe that he will spend the entire year on LTIR.

Cap space is scarce this year. The 1st is the price of scarcity.

Actually even if murray said tthat hes good to go, toronto doesnt have to clear cap space to activate him. As long as we dont have 4.9 in cap space we can keep him on LTIR as long as we want. So why would the leafs trade him for cap relief. We also dont need a backup tender, we have Woll.

It makes no sense. The LTIR can't be used to hide a contract.
