GOtta try things out

Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 9, 2023
Published: Aug. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Some have speculated that a destination for Petry may be Dallas; So I'm seeing what could be dealt to fit him in there. Dallas may also move other players after this one to change up a line or so. THis is just speculation on what is out there right now.

NYR would be overpaid for Lafrenière but I'm guessing Gorton would go for him with an overprice with prospects, a quick NHL turn around and a first pick to get him.

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Faksa, Radek
  2. Poirier, Rémi
  3. 2025 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Faksa would need to agree to move his M-NTC to go to MTL.
DAL
  1. Petry, Jeff ($2,343,750 retained)
Additional Details:
Only reason it would cost the 3rd pick is that the retention is only providing a million on cap at the end of the trade.
2.
MTL
  1. Lafrenière, Alexis [RFA Rights]
NYR
  1. Beck, Owen
  2. Faksa, Radek
  3. Norlinder, Mattias
  4. Primeau, Cayden
  5. 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
NYR Get a current NHL C/LW that can play, they get Beck and Primeau that have potential to play and a security blanket for Quick if he gets hurt. Plus a potential depth player at defense; on top of that the 1st from CAL.

While they just busted the cap, it's not a high break and they can handle it by either moving a player or resting up someone on LITR for part of the season on an injury that has been longing in order to rest up and be ready for the series.

As a Habs fan, the Laf trade is nice lol. NYR fans aren't going to give up Laf for less than at least 1 proven player and Montreal's pick. They value him too much, plus he could turn things around under a new coach.

I don't see Petry in Dallas. I see him here for at least 1 season, even tho I did hear the report a/b Dallas having interest.

Insanity. If Lafrenière wasn't from Quebec we wouldn't even be talking about a trade. Who cares where a player is from. In no way is Lafrenière worth that much

You assume it’s because he’s from Qc.. I’m saying he was Gorton “big fish” that he may still want regardless of where he comes from.

He wasn't his big fish, Laf was consensus. Plus now he realizes that was a unanimous mistake and would simply steer away. Beck & 1st in 25 doesn't cut it for NYR either way

So a 12th goalie prospect that mostly played ECHL games this year, an overpaid 4th line center and a two years removed 3rd?! Like in what world would Hughes trade away Petry just to end up with an higher cap hit and an extra contract slot taken for an ECHL goalie for a 3rd rounder?! Might as well just keep him at that point.

.. because he's getting another pick for Petry.. a third.. Yeah not great, but better then keeping Petry who, by the way if you haven't heard of this before, has phenomenally already asked a trade a year ago away from Mtl.. BTW Poirier is there to actually cover the AHL 2nd spot, so yeah a AHLer at best.. The Faska deal, yeah another cap dump, but it's a ensure Dallas give up the third pick, could even be a second at this point, who knows, I'm putting worst case scenario here.

You expect a first round pick and a superstar against Petry? All GMs knwo Habs just took him back and are ready to flip him (unless he and the wifey have had a true change of heart which I would assume not..)... ?

So... The consensus doesn't equal big fish? Oooookay...
He realized it may have been a mistake, guess you have an insider scoop, and he would steer away.. But yet a 1st and a highly sought after prospect would'nt cut in for NYR who basically are looking for low cap players and refurbish their propects in order to prepare for when their current players will ask for more money.. Yeah makes sense.

Guess you're forgot that this is what AGMs are for.. "In case of.." I'm goign for the Gorton may still want Lafrenière.. He may know he's not the franchise player he was sought to be, but he also knows in MTL this player could help ticket sales, and provide them with a good option for Suzuki/Caufield or even Dach/Newhook if they can find a true first liner.

Any GM with a brain wouldn't retain 5M$ and take a cap dump for a 3rd round pick, burning most of the cap you have left in the process. Petry asked for a trade a year ago but also didn't have Montreal on his NTC and said back then he didn't close the door to come back to Montreal.

Ah the ever insult throwing user… can’t guess what age you are but let’s figure out the mental probability of 5 yrs old.

If you had any sense of what cap retention is you would see that 1.7M$ is for one year, the remaining 2.3M$ is for the year after.. At that stage theywould have 19M$ to play with and a mere handfull of players to sign back none of which will hit a 5M$/yr payout UNLESS something incredible happens.. but again more than enough.

Now if you had any sense of player roster you would see that Habs are pretty much tied until 25-26 when some of the bad contracts start to go away, the first being Dvorak, and they get spots for new blood if Evans is moves or signs somewhere else. They get 48M$ (less the contracts signed the year prior, lets be on the expensive side and say 15M$) so that’s 33M$ potentially to sign Ghule Harris Kovacevic RHP and Slaf (if he pulls a miracle he could fetch 5 or 6 per year IF HE pulls a miracle after this season.. still think he wasn’t the best player to pick at 1st..)..

So stop thowing insults, 5M$ on a cap for this year and 2.3 next ain’t crazy. Others have done worst..
