toews deal

Description
Regardless of Drouins season this year i think he is only a one year deal unless he's taking another low deal for a year.
Toews deal is based off all the recent signings(orlov, weegar, lindholm, severson) and the extra year brings it down even more to a very resignable value.
Smith is brought in for a year to get some depth upfront but could be any upcoming UFA for a year to be able to resign byram and rants the following year. This also leaves us 2.2 mil to get a couple depth signings at the deadline(big 6D & bottom 6 depth)

While I'm not sure Toews signs at $7M, this could theoretically work even with hefty extensions for Mikko and Bo, and Landy coming back depending on how much the cap goes up. It does leave holes in 25-26 where Ryjo, Reilly Smith (or whomever), and Georgiev were depending on how COL wants to handle them. Again, not knowing the cap, I'm not sure how much room they'd have to address those three departures.

well this is next year when pits inevitably misses playoffs, so i'd assume they try to recoup some picks before he walks to free agency

Yeah so much revolves around landys return. That's such a big contract but if he does come back i'd think manson or girard would have to go, maybe even both if we've signed toews but that's two years from now, i think bringing in a retained solid UFA to bolster the offense would be our best bet if toews is signed on a similar deal

IMO, they're going to see how Landy is doing in the spring before they see if they can re-sign Toews. If Gabe makes it back for the playoffs and is playing relatively pain-free, Toews is as good as gone. But if it looks like he can't do it, the probability of re-singing Toews goes up by a lot. But I do worry quite a bit about how the Avs are going to balance their forward group. If they commit big money to Toews, Makar and Byram, even with Girard and Manson gone, they won't have much to spend after re-signing Mikko. Lots of unknowns in the equation.
