TOR
  1. Cotter, Paul
  2. 2025 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Third team retains 400K on Jarnkrok. VGK add a T9 forward that replaces a bit of what's lost with Reilly Smith, can slot up and down the lineup and is solid at 1.7. Vegas can fit him and be cap compliant with a 22-man-roster.
VGK
  1. Järnkrok, Calle
  2. 2024 6th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Leafs get a cheap forward with some offensive upside, good speed and can play physical. You also move up 2 rounds and open over a million dollars in cap room
2.
TOR
  1. Pospisil, Martin
  2. Tanev, Christopher ($2,225,000 retained)
  3. 2024 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Calgary add a first rounder for Tanev helping kickstart a potential re-tool on the fly.
CGY
  1. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
  2. 2024 7th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Leafs add a long targeted shutdown defenceman who was signed by Treliving and is from Toronto. Would round out the top-4 quite nicely and is very good defensively taking minutes off guys like Brodie and Giordano.

If the Flames are near .500 by mid November/Early December I am all over this. A 1st round pick for Tanev would be a really good deal for Calgary.

You are short selling. If Tanev can play top 2 minutes, and you re retaining 50% salary, plus including a 4th and a prospect, you should be getting back more than a low first and a 7th. Other teams at the trade deadline will give you more.

With the retention maybe, I don't know if I completely agree though. Guys moved at the deadline last year, Schenn, Gavrikov, Chychurn, Sandin, Ekholm, Hronek. Of that group I would argue Tanev would be the 4th or 5th best D man? Sandin got a late 1st, Schenn a 3rd at next to nothing of a cap hit, Ekholm got a **** load but he's got term, Gavrikov moved with Korpisalo for a cap dump and a middling 1st, Hronek a 1st and a 2nd but he's young and a future piece, Chychurn similar to Ekholm. A 1st round pick for Tanev who has injury trouble, slots better on the second pair and is a pure rental would be a good trade, giving up the 4th on the Calgary side seems a little silly and maybe there's a lower end sweetener.

Depending on the standings, CGY maybe does this in the new year with a bit of fine tuning.

Cotter at 775 for 3 years looks like it’s a steal for Vegas right now

People on this site continually overlook contract numbers when they make moves on here. There’s no doubt Jankrok is a better player, but even with the retention (which is more assets) it’s still a million more a year. Id like to see what Cotter can do this year in a more impactful role
