So let me get this straight, you're trading a top prospect in Peyton Krebs, who was the main piece in the Eichel trade, to Boston, for Brandon Carlo? I don't see the Sabers benefiting from this at all.

I don't care about 'main pieces' or the rhetoric around draft status etc. I do believe Kulich will be better than both Krebs and Mittlestadt within two years.

With that said, Carlo fills a huge need in Buffalo. And the Bs could use some help down the middle. It's a win-win imo.

Don't think the Sabres would trade Mitts for 2nd and probably a later pick in the 2nd to. Mitts for Borgen

I think Mittlestadt benefited from the players around him and other prospects will be able to do the same. That said, I don't disagree with you and sell high and get more if you can.

I’m not saying he sucks,
but Borgen is a 3rd pair quality defenseman
(U could argue Clifton is as well)

Mitts is worth much more than a 3rd pair guy
A 3rd pair defenseman should be able to be acquired at a lesser cost, something like a 3rd & 5th maybe, if even that much
Giving up a young developing Center like Mitts for him would be nuts

Well everything I have read has said Borgen was very good for Seattle last year and was a bit more than 3rd pair. Mitts hopefully takes another step in his development. But he needs to show up at the start of the year and not the last couple months. Sabres have a lot of young players coming, he is one of those decisions that will need to be looked at.

Borgen played just over 17min a night
That’s 3rd pair minutes

If we wanna trade for him, I’m fine with that
Just trade the appropriate pieces
Don’t overpay with Mitts, that would be bad asset management

Just bc we have tons of young talent, it doesn’t mean we should carelessly whip it around

Mitts has 1 year left on his deal, he is not getting any younger and needs to take another big step to get a extension here IMO with all the young players coming. Maybe I am selling a bit low and another piece needs to be added. But Borgen is solid, signed for a couple years and young enough to keep adding responsibility to. And Gives me a chance to see where Strbak or McCarthy are at in a couple years.

Fine, but it’s STILL just brutally horrible asset management

If u wanna trade Mitts & trade for Borgen, then fine
Just do it in separate trades so u maximize the value of Mitts,
and don’t overpay for Borgen

Idk how u aren’t getting this??
It’s a very simple concept that i shouldn’t have to spell out

Borgan would be a nice addition to the Sabre roster.
Casey and Olofsson may not be in the Sabre uniform for very long as the prospect pool has many potential replacements.
Both have much more value than many Sabre fans appear to give on this site.

Even before this past season, Casey was demonstrating decent offensive production with 41 pts over his previous 81 games.
Significantly better than Alex's 30 pts in 82 games last season.
If Alex Newhook could fetch 31st and 37th OA, Casey after last season should be able to do the same.
Borgan has the value of about the 37th OA.
Casey for Will would not be good asset management.

Exactly
And idk that Borgen is even worth a high 2nd?
Probably not

What value does Mitts have, he has 1 year left on his Contract and has been inconsistent his whole Career. You don't have to spell anything out for me. If he's worth more than that's fine, but until he proves he's more than a talented inconsistent player why would I waste Cap room on a extension when I have younger players to take that spot. So yes I will take a decent young RD with room to grow that is NHL proven at a position of somewhat weakness for us.

Obviously i do have to spell it out for you
Because:
1- i never ONCE said anything about “wasting Cap room on extension” for him
*no clue why u brought that nonsense into the convo

2- have ONLY talked about the value of Mitts, which is so obviously above that of a 3rd pair defenseman that this whole convo is utterly stupid

So for that, & bc happy hour/dinner is getting nice & busy,
I’ll leave you to the nonsense

Go ahead & create a Sabres ACGM where we trade Mitts for Borgen & do nothing else
We’ll see how many of our fellow fans agree with you

Newhook is 2 years younger and has played 120 games less Than Mitts. Newhook has already scored 30pts or more in a season twice in 2 1/2 seasons played. Mitts has done it once and it was this year. Newhook is a positive player, Mitts is not.

Come on, you know I could care less what people would think. If Mitts falters this year and doesn't grow and takes a step back. Be lucky to get a Borgen for him.

Casey had 22 pts in 41 games (0.54 pt/gm) when he was 22 yo the same age Alex had 30 pts in 82 games (0.37 pt/gm).

But you are correct if Casey played with third line wingers again this year, his stock would fall dramatically.

PLEASE
You practically beg for approval on the buzz
Lol

You’re scared, that’s fine
I’ll do it for you

Sorry guy, but once again, this is just a brutal idea
And it laced with all kinds of goalpost moving statements, like:
“If Mitts falters this year &…. takes a step back”

U could say the exact same thing about Borgen,
except Mitts has actually taken the step forward to begin with & Borgen is still just a bottom half defenseman

Dude, just stop. Come out to the bar & have some sort of a life in the real world. I’ll buy u a beer & u can try & convince ppl in person - at least you’ll get some face to face interaction with ppl

It would be a pleasure to share a drink with the two of you.
I live in Swormville ny and have a half season ticket plan.
We could meet at a game or before or after or at a sports bar.
