he was their 3rd pick this past draft- not signing him would be noteworthy. this is a no brainer.

Signing your 3rd round pick mere months after drafting them is unusual. They had two years to sign him to an ELC. That said, he's doing really well in the WHL this season, so the Canucks seemed to have made the right decision.
