zegras is still under full Anaheim control and hasn't demanded any sort of trade (that we know of), so for Anaheim's perspective there's no need to trade him, unless they are wowed by the offer, which this offer certainly isn't 'wowing"

Yeah DeBrincat got a lot less, Because he'd only sign long term with hometown Detroit. Zegras is a New Yorker who i seriously doubt has any interest in another rebuilding team like Montreal.

    1) Ottawa will not spend a 1st round pick to move a good 3rd liner who is overpaid by 500K$ at most lol, particularly since he's one of the best PK forwards in the NHL and Ottawa can easily afford him after the current season.

    2) This offer for Zegras is certainly a lowball

    - Calgary's 1st is hard to predict but an unknown 1st in 2 years as the MAIN piece? Seriously?
    - Ottawa's 1st in 2025 will be late
    - 2nd round pick
    - Tanner Pearson is a cap dump. Makes MORE than Joseph, is really not as good defensively and on the PK, plus Joseph has actually better scoring rates over the last 3 years

It's actually pretty similar to DeBrincat's return who was older than Zegras and had limited market. Zegras is still "cost controlled" for years while ADB was on his last year before UFA

    2024 1st round pick (DET) => 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
Dominik Kubalik < 2025 1st round pick (OTT) + Pearson, Tanner
    Donovan Sebrango + 2024 4th round pick (DET) < 2025 2nd round pick (MTL)

The difference is not that big and these packages are both not really good for these players. Try Hutson and Montreal's 1st in 2024 (top-5 protected) as the main pieces

What would you ask for Caufield for example? Or Suzuki?

What if it's the only way OTT can clear space to sign Pinto? They'd rather trade him than Joseph?

CGY and OTT 1st could be late if they make playoffs, but could very well be between 10 and 16 too.

Pearson is just a needed cap dump for the trade to work.

Caufield and Suzuki are signed for 8 years. If Anaheim can't extend Zegras, they need to trade him to a team with enough cap space to sign him.

I would do Hutson and MTL 2024 1st top 10 protected for Zegras. I'm not giving Hutson + a 7th overall for Zegras. But Anaheim don't need another D prospect.

    - There's many ways to play with the cap. First, Sens will most likely play with the number of players on their roster, at least to start the season. But maybe not as Norris might start on LTIR. They could also trade for a LTIR contract and play with the accrued space that way. There's many ways. I think they want to have all of Pinto, Joseph and even Kubalik. We'll see how it plays out but CF is not reality, it's a cesspool of overreactions

    - There's just too much talent in Ottawa. They'll be one of the better teams soon.

    - The Ducks will sign Zegras. They have all the cap space necessary. Brady Tkachuk missed the training camp and the first 3 games of the season 2 years ago.

    - You need to give higher end pieces for Zegras. Think of if Ducks fans were proposing this for Caufield, would you take it?
