Initial Creation Date: Sep. 26, 2023
Published: Sep. 26, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I just don't think Smith is the right fit for this team and no room flourish. The TOR trade is fairly random. I was just looking for prospects at a similar age and level in their final year as RFA.

As far as getting cap-compliant I'd risk losing Nieto to waivers to keep this lineup.

Interesting idea I think Robertson would benefit from a change of scenery

The Leafs still have faith in Robertson. Smith is a lost cause on the other hand. Really don't see the appeal in this for them.

A healthy Robertson is definitely in for a big year. I don't think the Leafs just yet, he's so talented. Both are guys that need changes of scenary, but Smith really wouldn't get much opportunity to prove himself here.

Fair enough. Like I said, it was really just random-ish.

I don't think Smith is a lost cause. Now, I'm not saying he's got crazy potential, but there's just no room here.

Can’t agree, G. No idea why you’d want Robertson, he’s a zilch, wouldn’t even waste a waiver wire fee on him. Nieto wouldn’t clear and is just plain better than Nylander, who’s a quad-A player with no risk of being lost on waivers because every team in the league has a guy or two like Nylander. Puustinen, who has promise, is waiver exempt and still has too many nights where he forgets where the D zone is. Z and Puusty have looked good together and will continue to do so in WB/S. Smith, who would not pass waivers, is better than both Friedman, another guy with zero risk of losing on waivers and who is a 7-9 defenseman at best, and Ruhwedel. But we know Sullivan likes Ruh, so I don’t expect him to be waived. No dice, amigo.
