Johnny Hockey is reunited with his favorite center, and the Jackets hope he can stay healthy. Jackets retain 50% on Roslovic, and give up a 3rd also for Monahan (who holds greater value to Montreal than Roslovic does) ... the caveat is Monahan's injury history, and the likelihood he will spend some time out of the lineup.. for those that feel it is a light return to Montreal for him, that's why. Columbus gains big time if Monahan stays healthy and regains his old chemistry with Gaudreau, but they do not gain much if he goes on the LTIR. Also trade Peeke and get a depth replacement in case of injuries, and a 2nd rounder.

When healthy:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Marchenko
Texier - Fantilli - Laine
Johnson - Jenner - Sillinger
Robinson - Kuraly - Danforth
Bemstrom

Montreal replaces Monahan with Roslovic for the rest of the year, can use him as trade bait at the deadline, and also gain a 3rd. Might be the unpopular part of the deal?

Canucks trade a 2025 2nd rounder and a depth replacement in Friedman to Columbus for Peeke.

Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Peeke
Cole - Myers

Trade might need to wait a bit so more cap space can be accrued here, but it's the concept at play.

Not bad, not bad at all. Definitely something to think about depending on how the season shakes out.
Only thing is the Columbus is adding Chinakhov back soon from his injury. That might make things complicated but we shall see.

i understand youre sending a replacement center to Montreal with the same cap hit but for a 3rd Montreal will likely just keep him since hell have at the TD a 1st rnd pick value if healthy

True, that could, but Chinakhov is waivers exempt, and he'd be likely to spend some time getting back up to speed in the AHL anyway, and might just ride out the season there barring injuries to others? (I suppose with Laine out he could step right in...)

Very well could, if he stays healthy and performs as well as he has so far, he could garner a 1st + (+?) depending on the added pieces. If he sits out a lot of the year with "nagging issues" or anything like that, it would be more difficult to justify it. Time will tell !

It's not only an question of if staying healthy Montreal could get an first round pick for him but if Monahan can prove he can stay healthy he will able to have another contract next summer. In case of another injury he may never be able to play again in NHL as team will be less interested adding an player who's not able to play for all the season.

Personally I don't think Monahan would be able to do an 60 to 80 pts year but if he's able to achieve between 45 to 50 pts and stay around 55 to 65% faceoff he could be a Decent addition for the playoff .
