They aren’t trading wheeler. He doesn’t really hold trade value outside of veteran depth which NYR will want to hold onto. Kubalik probably costs more than a 4th 👀 assuming he’s having a decent season and OTT is out of the playoff bubble(doubtful).

Why would New York want to take on salary (even with the retention) without getting significantly better? Why would Ottawa want Wheeler's old a**?

As badly coached and managed as they are, there is just way too much talent on that team to be completely out of the playoffs by the deadline. Doesn't mean that they still wouldn't trade Kubalik, he's not even needed right now and he's blocking Pinto to get signed (Dorion is the best GM ever)
