I've seen monahan's PP goals. They're him standing in front of the net doing nothing, waiting for the defensive coverage to be broken down by the members of the pp actually doing something, and then getting the easiest looks known to man.

Yes when you get 30 seconds a PP that starts with a breakin it's more difficult to find your sniper. Unfortunately they don't get the privledge of standing in front of the net the entire PP while their teammates do the work like monahan does

His role his to block the goalie’s vision. It’s a necessary goal on every pp and Monahan is probably in the top tier of the league for that role. RHP has the same role but he doesn’t find a way to produce, I wonder why?

Probably because RHP has a total of 8 seconds on the power play this year

So, if he doesn’t touch the puck, why play him there. Play Haula as the vision blocker role if he is that good

And how would you explain last year, when he was playing that role with Suzuki and Caufield. He got the same number of goals as Monahan this year in a lot more games

4 PPG in 63 minutes vs 3 in 33 minutes for monahan. Probably the lack of caufield on the PP, and the fact that sample sizes of 3 aren't meaningful

Haula does have a goal like that in his 4 minutes on the PP this year. It's not a hard job.

The devils would rather stick with their 45% pp method based on puck movement and quality entries from elite skaters

Also, we can’t really say Caufield is the reason the pp is thriving. I would even say that the pp would be better without Caufield (at least less pk goals)

So, why don’t they play him more?

Because Hughes Hughes Hamilton Meier Mercer Hischier Palat Toffoli Bratt Holtz exist, and unlike montreal, the devils aren't trying to inflate Haula's trade value by playing him in the most stat inflating role you can have

And Holtz serve no purpose on the pp, why not play Haula instead

In training camp when the devils were running 2 even pp units, they were balanced according to lines.

Holtz is also an offensive weapon, the devils want him on the PP for his development and it's where he'll end up throughout his career. He'd play there over Monahan as well.

If he is an offensive weapon, why does he have such bad stats on the pp. It should be easy to beat him. And it’s not like they are concern with his developpement since they are giving him limited ice time on the fourth line
