Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 27, 2023
Published: Oct. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Som rumblings from former connections within the Oilers:
1. Brown could be waived soon. His contract was $775,00 in base salary then a $3,225,000 bonus for playing 10 NHL games. If they send him to the minors then they clear $775,000 in cap for this year AND $3,255,000 for next year (his bonus would carried over).
2. Edmonton is looking at Bobby McMann to replace Brown. The reason Toronto held him and sent him down on the first day of the season instead of the last day of training camp was so that Edmonton would already be at the cap cause they were going to claim him. Toronto still wants Desharnais and Edmonton might now consider it after the start to the season.
3. Edmonton views Samsonov as a starter and as better than both their options.

I think realistically there may be a McMann for Desharnais trade in the next 2 weeks but I'm gonna mess around a little with a bigger trade.

Don't need or want Skinner, would rather bet on Sammy bouncing back

While a good description, I think the Leafs decline for one main reason, Sammy. I fully expect Sammy to get back to playing good hockey soon. I am hoping both him and Woll push each other to be better. Skinner just scares me even though the potential could be there.

Sammy is obviously better but the $1M in cap space, 3rd and Desharnais make it worth considering.

Yes, I have no idea how Toronto values Sammy.

Personally I think the difference is accounted for in this trade but I could be way off.

I am also unsure, but I am assuming it is more than this deal. He did have a 919 save last year. Just because he's started shaky, doesn't mean they want him gone.

One thing is for certain though, whatever goalie is the starter for game one of the playoffs, will likely get the contract extension and the other will be gone in the offseason.

Is it? Sammy is better at his best than Skinner and the term on Skinner isn't attractive when you compare him to his current or playoff production

As it stands today, Sammy is no better than Skinner. EDM would be banking on him turning his game around. McMann for Desharnais straight up seems more in line with both team needs.
