Toronto Maple Leafs 2024-25

Created by: bg77
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 27, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here is a way too early rough draft of what I would like to see the Leafs do next off-season. Mainly bolstering the team with playoff style defensemen, and leaving enough cap space that will accumulate by the trade deadline for the team to make additional moves mid-season. I also made a trade proposal for a capable backup goaltender that Treliving is familiar with, and who can also share the net with Woll. I believe the Leafs will replace Samsonov once he hits unrestricted free agency, he will want too much money and/or term.

Let me know what you think, I am open to positive and constructive feedback!

They always blame the goalie when the real problem is a lack of commitment to playing good team defense in front of the goalies. Leafs are more worried about piling up points to argue for money on the next contract than about winning the games that matter.

Everything I have read says that the cap is likely going up by $3-$4 million next season. Here is an article from nhl.com from earlier this month that I just found for reference.

What would the asking price be for Vladar then? I'm not sure about other teams interested in trading for him but I don't think he has as much value as some Flames fans seem to think he would. At this point, he will have one year left, obviously he could have an amazing year this season and I understand that, but to this point he hasn't been consistent enough to me to warrant a huge return. Adin Hill was acquired by Vegas last summer for a 4th round pick with a similar games played total and numbers.

From my outside perspective, it seems the Flames might be more concerned with revamping their roster next year with more free agents if any of your pending UFAs walk, and dumping his $2.2 AAV could be more valuable than it seems. It also will finally give Dustin Wolf the opportunity to make the team, and teams will know that Vladar is the only goalie that is really available for trade given Markstrom's NMC. I'm interested to here what your opinion on this is.

We don't want to sign Samsonov to term if he wants more than $3,500,000 - $4,000,000 unless he stands on his head the rest of the year and playoffs. It's still super early, but I've been following Joseph Woll with the Marlies up until this point and I've been impressed enough with him to look elsewhere for a goalie partner with him. Joseph Woll will have a $766,667 cap hit next season, which is lower than the current league minimum at $775,000. It's more a cost thing than actually having poor goaltending, Samsonov had good numbers last season.

And when Woll has a mid season next year, you won’t want to keep him. It’s the cycle of the leafs
