Peterson's contract is shorter so the oilers could just buy him out next off-season or keep him in the AHL next year so his contract expires. When Petersons' contract expires is when Drai's expires as well so they will need all the cap space then. The only way the Oilers can dump soup at this point is by taking a bad contract back.
