Jets at the Deadline

Created by: mynameisliang_
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 7, 2023
Published: Nov. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pionk can be any defenceman not named Morrissey or Demelo. As it stands, I think this gives the Oilers like 1.5M in cap space, and replaces Draisaitl who they have for the next 18 months with Perfetti who has 4 more years of team control and Lucius who has 5 after this season, plus two first round picks, a goalie who won the cup last year, a League-average RHD, and a reclamation project in Logan Stanley.

Nope.

Leon is gone in 18 months at this rate, and the Oilers get back top prospect Centre (Lucius) who has probably 2C upside next season, Cole Perfetti who is a 22 year old top-6 winger with four years of team control, a legit NHL calibre RHD (Pionk), a goalie who is better than any of the guys currently on their team, and Stanley because he's free. Are you going to get more from someone for a guy with 18 months of term before he's paid $13M until he's 37?

Jets can’t trade away the future, hell of a player, but jets bulk of their budget going forward is spoken for, need some kids playing over their contracts going forward.

I do think this is a deal the Oil should have to consider. But agree with Birtle this probably isn’t the move for the Jets, they need their homegrown talent

The jets really arent giving up anyone they dont have a replacement in-house for. Perfetti looks like a really good top-6 winger, but they have lots of guys who can fill that role in the pipeline. Lucius is a very good prospect but I don't think that he's going to be embarrassing the jets in three years, we have other guys in the system who project at Centre around the same level as him, so I'm not particularly concerned. Stanley needs a change of scenery and the picks are the cost of doing business.

I dont think this really messes up the cap for the Jets. You let Dillon walk in the summer and buy out schmidt. Promote chisholm, Heinola and Salomonsson and I don't think your defence is worse.

Those kids prime probably miss the forwards prime, will be interesting to see if they can hit before, scheifele and helly age out. Jets pretty much need everything near perfect to win the last possible game of the year.

I think that if the Jets go with cheap youth on the backend and spend up on forwards they could really cheat the system. if they do this next year their combined cap hit on Defence will be like $12m assuming they sign Demelo for the same price he's getting right now. You can then take a bunch of the assets you've accumulated and go out and get a legit difference maker if they spring loose. I think if the oilers keep sucking that Draisaitl will want out, maybe as soon as february.

I would never bad mouth a gm for being aggressive Or hanging it out there, especially Chevy, nicely entertained with squad so far
