If you miss the playoffs, Draisatl is not re-signing in the summer, and you can't enter the season with him without a contract, or he'll walk for nothing at the end of the year. Your only hope is to put together a team for 2024 that makes a splash in the playoffs and extend Mcdavid in 2025. Draisaitl is worth more to certain teams if you trade him at the deadline this year than if you wait until the summer.

Jets only had to pay Hellebuyck 8.5x7 for him to give up on winning. I'll be very surprised if Drai doesn't just take the bag.
