Edmonton would surely get a better offer than this.

If they were to actually trade McDavid it would be for an elite tier player and a couple extra pieces. Not 6 really good pieces.

It’s like what Calgary thought they were getting in the Tkachuk trade.

Downgrade slightly (at the time) from Tkachuk to Huby and then add in Weegar and 1st to compensate.

You'd hope they'd learn from the Tkachuk trade instead of trying to emulate it. Calgary is in shambles right now with no direction whatsoever. If Edmonton were to actually trade McDavid they should value picks and prospects much higher than good or even great nhl players. They'd have to go full tear down and rebuild. Trading McDavid and Draisaitl would be a huge jump start on that if they do it right. First and foremost they'd have to find a competent GM

I mean you've pretty nicely exampled the issue with acquiring/paying a player like McDavid. No secondary scoring or defense.

You have ~$10mil to get 2 second line wings, 2nd pair RD, 3rd pair RD and LD and goalie.

I think you have to be a team like Arizona, Anaheim, CBJ, etc in order to build a contender around McDavid. Even then, you're working in a 2-3 year window before ELCs/bridge deals expire and you're in a cap crunch again.

Well no one is waiving their M-NTC to play in Canada so the trade stops there.

"In my opinion, there is no way Edmonton gets a better offer than this."

I could name a dozen teams that would toss out trades that just makes this look silly. DeBrusk, UFA at end of season?? Carlo?.. c'mon. Ullmark doesn't move the needle enough.

Aside from McDavid being a mountain of a hockey player and propelling any team to playoff contender for the most part he would be putting fans in seats to any team he's apart off... GM'S would toss the prospect pool and picks at Oilers if he was truley available.

One would assume a top line rostered player under term or RFA 25 or younger (you have offered none), two A+ prospects ( you have offered a B+) the two firsts are nice but then again they are most likely a late and a mid 1st rounder, so two to three 1st rounders, a 2nd rounder, goalie prospect and a b prospect is what I'm asking as the Oilers GM.

like for instance Chicago could offer two 1st rounders , three 2nd rounders , Oliver Moore C, Lukas Reichel C/LW, Alex Vlasic, LHD, Arvid Söderblom G, and literally any two rostered players from the team and it wouldn't derail their rebuild one bit.

The GM would be insane to trade McDavid for mostly futures. You don't move the best player in the world for a bunch of assets that might be good.

Learning from the Tkachuk trade in the way you mentioned is like watching someone hit 18 in roulette and assuming that must happen a ton. A really good player having his play fall off that hard is less likely than the next Oilers GM missing on a bunch of late 1st rd picks

I disagree. Edmonton has such a trash team when you remove McDavid. Swapping him for a couple star players doesn't make them a contender. They basically become the Minnesota wild. Nobody wants to be the Minnesota wild.
