What does a Guentzel deal look like

Created by: Kyle_Okposo_Lover
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 14, 2023
Published: Nov. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For the record, I think he is returning. This is in the case he doesnt want to so they sell him
Trades
1.
PIT
1st team that comes to mind. A few complications because they also have to re-sign Petey this summer so it may be tight, but if they can clear some cap I could see it with an extension in place.

    Garland
    2024 1st
    Hunter Brzustewicz
    VAN
      Guentzel (3 mil retention)
      Ruhwedel
      2.
      PIT
2nd team that makes sense. They have been circling a big move for a while, so this makes a ton of sense imo.

        2024 1st
        2026 2nd
        Mavrik Bourque
        Christian Kyrou
        DAL
          Guentzel (3 mil retained)
          Ty Smith
          3.
          PIT
3rd option is a team nobody suspects, but sneakily makes a lot of sense. They need a true star who isnt 19 years old, and Guentzel could be him. You need to surround talent with talent, and this move would do just that. This is assuming they are still in the playoff picture (top 3 in division by a few points at least) at the TDL, and an extension is in place. Plus getting Pettersson really strengthens the defense and lines up well with Zellweger to where they can ease him in next season. Pettersson can also play the right side

            2024 1st (top 10 protected)
2024 2nd (better of ANA or BOS)
            Nico Myatovic
            Tristan Luneau
            Drew Hellesson
            ANA
              Guentzel
              Marcus Pettersson
              4.
              PIT
4th option is not very likely but possible. Florida does not have a lot to offer but they can put together enough imo. This changes vastly based on how much you value Knight, but imo this is a risk reward move that makes a lot of sense for the Penguins. There are two pieces that could return massively, Knight and the 1st. And if you are trying to build a roster to "contend" in the future with Crosby this move could make sense. Obviously keeping Guentzel makes the most sense but this is if they think he will not re-sign

Nucks should avoid Guentzel with Kuzmenko, Boeser and Mikheyev. Our cap space should be spent improving the d and resigning Petey.
                  I think Nashville would be a potential bidder. I’d offer L’Heureux, Carrier, a 1st and a 3rd.

Pens should definitely take that. Bolduc is awesome, Saad is a good middle six forward and a pick is always nice

I wouldn't be shocked if Dubas pulls the trigger on a trade, but I think it would be for a younger player whose really good and could help us win now.

I can’t see Nashville giving up that much, especially with this start to the season and Forsberg already clogging the LW. We could just give him an offer as a UFA in the summer if we really want him.

The point still stands with an extension in place. Paying a 1st, a 2nd, QJMHL defensemen of the year, a 33rd overall pick, and a prospect who is near NHL ready is a wild price for a player who's upcoming contract would likely create issues when all the ELCs need extensions in the coming years. Guentzel is sick, but Ducks should not be selling that much for a guy who will be in the back 9 of his career as they reach their true compete window. Also the Ducks have negative demand for another LHD, even if he plays the right side, they do not need another defensemen who is shaky in his own zone.

Tristan Luneau has been so overrated for a while, Myatovic and Hellesson are nice but they arent more than depth pieces and a 1st and 2nd are solid pieces. Thats what it takes to get superstars. None of those 5 assets have a high likelihood of becoming what Guentzel is, and Anaheim has enough depth pieces to where this top end talent pushes them over the edge. You need talent to surround talent, but even here you could take out Luneau and throw in someone else like Perreault or Tracey.

And ik ur gonna be like "difference between Luneau and those two is so large" well I disagree lol. dont see Luneau becoming more than a low end 2nd pair, high end 3rd pair guy
