Disagree. Tanev would likely fetch similar to the Muzz deal and the leafs are moving dead salary in Klingberg. This is a competitive deal considering the interest Tanev is currently drawing.

Definitely not but what you proposed here isn't really similar, he probably can fetch that. The Leafs dcore is in shambles right now, and unless they are a Tanev away from having an elite dcore it's definitely not worth it for them considering that he's 33.

The Leafs can definitely use a 1st. Rielly, Dermott, Liljegren, Sandin, and Durzi are the only Dmen drafted by the Leafs in 10-years that are NHLers so far, and only 2 of them are still Leafs. The only guy in the system right now that anyone is expecting much of is Niemela.

Well then don’t even get Calgary to retain pay someone else a third to half retain on tanev the leafs still need to do more moves if they want to be a legit contender

If eating Klingberg for the rest of the year is needed to get a deal done, I doubt there are many teams that would balk at that. No need to give up a draft pick for it at this point.

Muzzin also had 1 more year left on his contract which adds to his value. Tanev is a full rental who might not even extend. Muzzin was also 29, not 33 like tanev. No shot any team gives up a first and 2 recent second round picks for a 33 year old pure rental who doesnt even play first pair.
