Funny how we agree in here (almost) but not the other thread.

That said, take Lili out and add a 3rd and Robertson was my thoughts.

Leafs decline to move Robertson too we value him at a first too now we can maybe push it to 3 3rds to make sure it gets done

I think leafs would have to pay that much. The good news is that we'd now have 9 d including timmins and Benoit and enough capspace going forward to navigate changes easily. I don't see how you make this deal without losing either minten or liljegren and liljegren makes more sense considering his cap hit. Robertson makes little sense since he's just finally clicking for the first time, he has little value on a trade market and a low cap hit.

Point per game player so far this season obviously can’t keep that up but even if he’s half a point per game he’s well worth it given his age

If you swapped for the 1st and instead give up 2 3rds would Calgary then go for it?

4 points in 5 games, whoopie ****. 7 points in his other 31 NHL games. He's worth a 2nd at most, and that's only if someone is super high on him

Tanev is and old pending ufa, they won't have to give a good prospect (let alone two) along with a 1st to get him. If you look at Giroux, Tarasenko, O'Reilly, and Orlov, only Giroux returned a young player of some significance in Owen Tippett but he was 23 and looked like he wasn't going to turn out to be anything good if they kept him.

Zadorov would be a nice addition to many teams' blue lines because of his physicality but realistically teams aren't going to be lining up to give their prospects or RFA defenders for him. If the Leafs are looking to acquire Hanifin, that's when maybe Minten or Liljegren would need to be put on the table. No reason for the Leafs to include Liljegren in a trade for Tanev+Zadorov unless that saves them from giving up a 1st for them or if it's Zadorov+Tanev for a 1st+Liljegren+Klingberg (assuming he doesn't end up on LTIR).

You mean remove the first? No, not a chance. Personally I have 0 interest in Lili. Take him out and add the Isles 3rd and another prospect/young player,,, If Robertson is too much, then I'd be cool with Steeves.

While I agree the Leafs won't give up that much, you can't compare trades involving forwards to trades involving defensmen because they are different trade markets.

IMO each Zadorov and Tanev are worth a 2nd and a B prospect in a vacuum, but I also believe each are the ilk of player that GMs tend to go braindead over near or at the trade deadline and may overpay for; so my gut feeling is one of them returns a 1st because some GM gets desperate and stupid, like we've seen with Chariot & McCabe. Of course this is only a gut feeling, I could easily end up being wrong.

That's true, but I meant more so to highlight the age factor and how that affects the quality of prospects required to get top rentals. If we just look at the "top" rental D-men (Gavrikov, Orlov (who I added to my edit), and Chiarot) it's the same thing. The only guy that I can think of who could have fetched some good prospects was H Lindholm. I wouldn't really include McCabe since that's more so of paying for a multi-year rental and low cap hit.

I don't disagree with your valuation on Zadorov and Tanev (pretty similar to Giordano), although I think both have the potential to fetch a 1st+ as rentals depending on the market. I think market saturation prevents Zadorov from fetching a 1st, and if he's bundled in a package with Tanev, the return might just come out to a 2nd+C prospect. My point though was that teams can easily get away with just giving up the value of a B-prospect in terms of picks if they want to and just throw in a C/D prospect as a warm body. Leafs won't have to give up prospects or players that they don't want to for those two guys unless it's because of a lack of picks or they just feel like doing so. As much as I want to see him succeed, preferably as a Leaf, I could definitely see a guy like Robertson potentially getting dealt even though that 3rd line looks amazing right now (different story if they are amazing through multiple stretches or an extended stretch). If he is included it's likely to reduce the size of the package going the other way perhaps a 1st+Robertson+Abruzzese + a 4th (if it's just retention on Tanev a 3rd if on both) + Klingberg (if needed), more so if adding Robertson allows them to just give up two 2nds instead of a 1st.

I don't think we are too far off on value... if I altered OP (with both being retained @ 50%), I'd remove Lili, add a 3rd and either Robertson or Stevees (depending how much Treliving values this guys, which I think is quite a bit)
