there's literally only one difference lmao and it's a 33 year old guy who is injured every other game... once he inevitably gets injured, its the EXACT same d-core as this season, which as we have seen is not extremely competent

If our d core was that bad we’d have a negative record lol

dude are you serious lol... our record isn't negative bc Matthews and Willy are playing out of their minds. they are outscoring their problems.

srsly go take a look at the leaf's defensive numbers and metrics and then try to tell me that the D-core is playing well

I know it’s not playing well but if it was the anchor as you suggest we’d have a negative record

dude that's just not true at all lmao

have you not seen the production from our top 2 lines? they're playing at a rate that is unsustainable. both 34 and 88 are on pace for almost 82 goals this season lol

the only reason our record is 10-5-2 is because our offense has been powerful and clutch at the right times. like i said, unsustainable. need to start winning 2-1 and 3-0 hockey games, not 6-5.

I like the idea of that third line, hard to say if Minten and Cowan would be ready. I like the idea of Stamkos signing here but at 8m I'd rather the leafs spread that cap around. If he chose to sign a spezza type deal then I'd be all for it!

We have won 5 of 6 + Leafs have a winning record - with below average goaltending (negative goals saved above expected). One D man - to play with Reilly or McCabe - is all that is needed and plenty of time to get that done. Settle down; leafs are a really good team but have issues, same as most. And lots of teams with legit unsustainable numbers (Canucks, Bruins, Vegas)

Only Leafs fan will complain about the WAY the team is winning. Cripes, can't we just be happy they're winning games for once?

no, we can't, because this is not the way you win playoff hockey games. the 6-5 and 5-4 OT wins are fun to watch in the regular season, but the play switches in the playoffs. any team we play, no matter how poor they are defensively, will NOT be giving up 5-6 goals a game.

idk about you, but for me personally, i'd rather watch the leafs win games in the playoffs rather than the regular season.

Can't have a chance to win in the playoffs without winning in the regular season. But that's a fair point, I would rather they win in the playoffs as well. The playoffs, imo, has an underlying issue that the game changes significantly in the way it's officiated. It's such a weird concept to me how no other pro sports league has this same issue. So the type of play that gets you to the playoffs isn't necessarily the best way to win once there. Whether the D corps is good on advanced metrics or not the issue remains that none of our core talent players are willing to play the type of hockey that wins in the playoffs. So change the D all you want, it's not going to magically make Nylander and Marner hard to play against in the corners.
