Nylander is at a different point in his career than Gaudreau. I think you're missing the initial comparison. It wasn't apples to apples how they are NOW. Nylander is were Gaudreau was three years ago and Nylander is arguably playing with a higher caliber of talent than Gaudreau is.

I think the comparison is very fair. The only factor in the salary Nylander gets is the fact the cap will be substantially higher than the flat-cap we've had in place the last three years.

I do it above because it’s unique & provocative.

I totally get the originally point and comparison, and the math associated. It’s ok we think differently about this.

Comparables are great when they work, but Im not convinced they do here. Right now the only two half way comparable to-be UFAs this summer are Reinhart and Guentzel. For a team who’s desperate, I could see a $11.5-$12m AAV there for Willie if he explores. He might even take a short term deal since he’s only 27/28.
