There's no reason for the Jets to pay that much to move Schmidt. Just ride his contract out at this point.

The Jets don't have the defensive depth to give up a top 4 defenseman plus for a 6/7 defenseman with one year left on a bad contract.

It's also unrealistic that the Jets are the ones adding to downgrade in the Edmonton trade.
