Caufield needs a Dachiotomy

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 23, 2023
Published: Nov. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dvorak just ain't gonna cut it. Caufield & Slafkovsky should produce at least 1 point between the two of them per game. Any game where they don't is a tragedy, even if the Habs win. They need a play-driving center. If it's not Dach, it can be someone else. This is painful to watch.

Destroying the confidence of your future top line players is not the way to "rebuild". Enough is enough, go and get a Center to play with these guys so they can start their engines.

I understand your point, but Montreal would never send Montembault and their 1st round pick for RNH.

Its not a tragedy at all if a 19 year old kid isnt a ppg player yet. And yes Caufield needs a play driving center who can create him space, his name is Dach. Sucks but hes out for the year and we'll need to be patient. Easy to lose the big picture in a 82 game season.

I have to agree with the people posting above. Montreal is not going to make the playoffs this year so they do not need to send future quality assets (especially during a rebuild) elsewhere for a 30 year old player just to make this year better for a few young players. They need to be patient, take the high draft pick that they will get this year and continue to improve over the next couple of years.

Montreal is in year #2 of a rebuild. I think they need time to be able to do a rebuild in a proper way.

the real tragedy is the expectations you habs fans put on Cole. he is not the superstar you think he is... i think it's a little unfair to expect him to be a PPG player, especially on a team like the Habs with no real offence around him.

he will top out at around 40g 35a at his peak... i'm not sure where you guys picked up this notion of him being a trailblazer and lighting the league up but that's just not gonna happen given his size and unique skillset

Ever since Dvorak has returned, Monahan has taken a back seat for whatever reason (not to mentioned he's paired with Anderson now, which is completely killing his offense...). I'm hoping the reason for this is that they are trying to showcase Dvorak.

If St-Louis wants to keep Caufield and Suzuki separate. Monahan should be paired with Caufield. And for whatever reason that still hasn't happened yet......

As for the trade....If Habs decide they want to spend valuable assets (potential top 5 pick again with the 2024 1st), might as well spend a little extra and go for Zegras. Or do a Dach-like trade for Kent Johnson in CBJ or Morgan Frost in PHI.

a 40g 35a player in MTL would be considered a superstar lol You have no idea how long MTL haven't even had a player like that...

No joke, I don't believe Habs fans today can even fathom a 100pts player lol Haven't had one of those since the 70s...

ahaha yeah you do make a good point - i guess in terms of relativity a 75p season would be exciting and definitely still a phenomenal accomplishment

but i just see way too much rhetoric from habs fans saying he's gonna put up 50, 60, hell i've even seen some say 65 goals is within his reach. they need to temper their expectations as they're gonna grow to resent the kid more and more when he inevitably doesn't perform to their unrealistic standard

I haven't really seen many Habs fans "expecting" Caufield to score 50-60g a season, at least not right now anyway. It's more that they love stating that he has that potential, which is true.

He's clearly struggling right now, not sure if it's injuries. This is probably the worst Caufield has looked since St-Louis took over as coach, but even then, Caufield at his current worst is still on pace to score more than 20goals... so even if he only improves marginally, he'd already be close to 30, and if he gets back on track, he can still pop 40+goals this season whilst still going through a pretty poor 20 game stretch.

Read it again team. I said that between the TWO OF THEM I am expecting one of the two to score 1 point every game. If both of those players are held off the score sheet every night... we have problems.
