D Upgrade and Coaching Change

Created by: Islander42
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 25, 2023
Published: Nov. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs let Keefe go and add Roy to the coaching staff as Assistant Coach behind Guy Boucher

Might need to offer better picks in these trades, like two 3rds instead of two 5ths for Hanifin. Anaheim can get a better prospect, but Leafs only have 2 RHD in their system and I don't think they should move any of those.

People say the Lyubushkin experiment didn't work...maybe they're right. All I remember are big hits and him setting up Blackwell on a 3 -1 vs. Tampa in Game 3.

See follow-up ACGM for the 2024-2025 season.

So the answer is to obtain the 4th and 5th Flames Dmen. The Flames have identical defensive stats as the Leafs.

Roy is not the solution for this team neither is Boucher

The issue rn is that blue line is fragile thats it

It has cracks in it

Rielly-Brodie have been doing so much its not weighing on them

Gio should not be in the top 4 and McCabe not on his offside

Timmins its his second game back but hes looking waivable rn

And Lagesson and Benoit have had moments but should not be in the lineup on a team trying to win. They need to add a Dman or two

Splitting Matthews and Marner would also help

Edit: Reunited Rielly - Brodie
Hanifin - Lilly
McCabe - Buush

Boucher sells his 1-1-3 and maybe Roy is the loud voice they need. Idk about his coaching thb, but I'd tune in for that.

Boucher nor Roy will be a HC they had their chance and blew it. Roy maybe for a non contender but just cant see it for anyone but MTL. Neither is an upgrade over Keefe. If the Leafs fire Keefe it will be because an upgrade is available but all guys rn are lateral moves or downgrades.

I agree with, I don’t like Keefe but you need a proper replacement. What about Gruden? Or is he more a development guy?

I think Trotz would have been good but that’s done.

Better players would nice, but Leafs offence hasn't been scoring. Why is so much the Leafs defensemen are to blame? It's just so old nonsense to think middling Dmen from other teams and giving up a boatload to get is the solution. Not having Klingberg, and Liljegren, two top 6 Dman hurts, and 7th Dman Timmins has only played two games due to injury.

Leafs are 10th in GF/GP, 22nd for goals against. Injuries haven't helped, the current top 6 D has AHLers. They're top heavy, and essentially a lock for the playoffs b/c of that, but the team isn't build around D and have some flaws overall.

I see your point, can they keep going all in every year without success...we all know next year will be a squeeze if they re-sign Nylander, maybe the play is to setup a new window for a run 2 years from now. Let the Mintens, Cowans, Niemelas, etc. join on ELCs, rebuild a solid blueline with the new cap space (Tavares $11M off the books). Then they can spend assets for those TDLs. With that said, some cheap adds here and there this year with a good first round matchup, ya never know, good runs can happen.
