Obviously Minten is the key to the deal for Calgary. Hanifin as a rental with 50% retained is probably worth a late 1st (late because typically only playoff teams trade for rentals) plus other smaller pieces. I don't see any retention in this proposal, so that should lower his price. Minten was an early 2nd-round pick, which sounds about right, but has his value as a prospect gone up or down since he was picked in 2022, and by how much? I would argue that his value has gone up, because he actually made the Leafs out of training camp, and the fact that he's two years farther along in his development than a 2024 draft pick makes him more valuable, so I'd say he's probably about equivalent to a 2024 mid-1st. That makes this a bit of an overpay, but not so much that Toronto wouldn't do it if they really thought he was what they needed (though I would insist on 50% retention for that price). I don't think he is. I'd be more inclined to go after Tanev. Because of their ages, Hanifin would be more appealing if they were looking at an extension, but I think both would be strictly rentals for Toronto.
