Detroit Deadline

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 22, 2023
Published: Dec. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What my trade deadline would look like for this team.
Trades
1.
DET
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Traded to a playoff team for a similar return. Could take a bit of cap back if needed.
Chose the Islanders cause I think they could benefit from a bit of a boost in their top 6.
NYI
  1. Perron, David ($2,375,000 retained)
2.
DET
  1. 2024 5th round pick (COL)
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Gost traded to a team in need of some depth D.
Chose Jersey since they lost Hamilton and have the cap space to play with.
Expect a return similar to last year.
3.
DET
  1. Copley, Pheonix
  2. 2026 4th round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Goalie swap for the Kings. Gives them a bit more reliable back up option. Reimer has played well on a bad defensive team so far.
Chose a pick in 2026 since the Kings only have 4 this draft. Made it a 4th since its 2 years away but I could see it being a bit later of a pick.
4.
DET
  1. 2025 5th round pick (MIN)
  2. 2026 7th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Traded to a playoff team that is need of a cheap depth forward.
Chose Rangers at random.
5.
DET
  1. Carrier, William
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
If Kane wants to compete for another cup and agrees to waive.
6.
DET
  1. Brown, Connor
  2. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Oilers get a middle 6 forward to possibly play with Draisatl.
The biggest value here is the cap savings of 3.4M for next season. I structured this similar to the Kassian trade. Oilers Traded down 3 spots in the first round, added a 2025 2nd and 2024 3rd to dump 2 years of 3.2M. Oilers drop from the 1st round to the early second round to dump 1 year of 3.4M. 2024 2nd added for Sprong.
There would be conditions on the 1st.
*2024 1st is top 12 protected, so even if they just miss the playoffs, it still transfers. If pick is top 12, Oilers have the option to transfer a top 5 protected 1st in 2025. If that pick is top 5, they have the option to transfer an unprotected 2026 1st.
**If Oilers make the conference finals, Detroit sends the 2nd earliest pick in the second round they own.
EDM
  1. Sprong, Daniel
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (DET)
7.
DET
  1. Faksa, Radek ($650,000 retained)
  2. White, Gavin
  3. 2025 5th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Dallas makes a bit of cap room to acquire Tanev, get a replacement player in Rasmussen who is younger and under team control.

I don't get the love for faksa, I can't see Edmonton paying a 1st there to dump brown. Sure for selling all the ufas selling anyone outside of Larkin, Raymond and Seider really.

55% faceoff win percentage which we are ranked 23rd in the league right now. Good PKer which we ranked 20th in the league. We are also second worst in the league for taking penalties so those are 2 categories I would really like see improved. Faksa only with 8 PIMs this season so far, another thing I like. He's not really physical though.

Edmonton is only dropping a few spots to dump Brown, while getting Sprong.

I like the Kane idea, Carrier wouldn't be involved in the trade at all though. Arguably the best 4th liner in the league, he's hugely important to why Vegas can run 4 lines so well.

That's why I want him lol. I'm hoping we take a swing at him in free agency if he doesn't get extended in Vegas.

Maybe it happens, definitely not at the deadline though.

Copley is on LTIR and likely to miss most of the season. Big Save Dave Rittich is the Kings backup now, and he looked really good in his only outing so far.

Didn't know he was out for the year. Could still be an option for insurance down the road. Rittich has cleared waivers already right?

Yes, Rittich has cleared waivers. Reports are that the Kings are looking for a goalie that can fill in as the 3rd goaltender behind Talbot and Rittich.

Well there you go, here's Reimer 😉. Really though he would be motivated and would be a cheap add.

They would need for him to clear waivers, so I'm not sure they'd give up a pick for a guy that might just get claimed by someone else the very next day.

If Detroit waived him and he cleared, then I bet the Kings might be willing to give up a late round pick like this since they'd be able to assign him to the AHL.

Why not assign Rittich back to the AHL since he already cleared? That would be the logical move in my opinion. Either way just an option for Kings. Don't see them spending a bunch on a goalie since so many teams might be goalie shopping.

They like Rittich. He was playing well in the AHL and has looked good for the Kings so far. They're rewarding him for taking a chance with the Kings.

They just need someone with some NHL experience that can also be a 1B guy in Ontario behind Erik Portillo. They'll likely take someone on a six-figure deal that they can get that they know will clear and won't have any cap implications.
