I've seen some flaws in Seider's game this season. He's losing more puck battles. More giveaways. But he's still pretty fantastic. I think he's trying to do too much. I also think Yzerman underestimated Hronek's importance to the D.

never understood that move. traded hronek to spend big time money in FA and replace him with Petry and drafted ASP with the pick

We (Detroit) didn't even need to re-sign Lindstrom. Dude was preparing to go to the SHL.

Yzerman probably wanted us to take Maatta back instead of him.

That's the thing. Red Wings fans are raving about ASP's potential. But that's just what it is. Potential. There's no guarantee it'll translate to the NHL.

Meanwhile, Hronek has fit in very nicely playing with Hughes in Vancouver.

this trade reminds me that sometimes it’s better to keep the player instead of moving him for a 1st

He has the hardest deployment in the league by far.
I recognize that his stats haven't been the best, but he has the hardest role in the league lmao.

Playing tough minutes is a very valuable thing. But he's simply not succeeding in those minutes. Especially if he's without Walman.

John Marino plays very tough minutes too, and his partner is Kevin Bahl who certainly isn't on the level of Walman.

Everyone that Yzerman signed in FA were overpaid and he gave them long term deals. They were just role players that performed pretty well on their old teams. He gave Chiarot 4x4.75M after he clearly fell off with the Panthers. He got EXPOSED there. Then decided to give Compher 5.1x5.. we all know he’s not that, another overpaid player Yzerman gave a deal. He did the same mistake over and over again with Copp at 5.6x5, JUSTIN HOLL at 3.4x3. Traded for Petry when there was already a logjam in the defense. Signed Lyon when he already had Reimer/Husso. Signed Gostisbehere when he had Maatta.

So he was basically handing out long term deals with big aav like he was on NHL 24 Franchise mode

i think compher has worked out really well

I know Yzerman wasn't looking forward to having to pay RFA Hronek but they could sure use him right now.

You are victim to Walman's previous season.
Walman has been absolute ass-cheeks as of late. Like, really really bad.
Furthermore, comparing Marino's situation to Seider's is funny.

The devils send Marino out there to hard match with McDavid and Pastrnak, with a rookie on his pair at all times

Are you not recognizing the fact that the Devil's are a significantly better team top-to-bottom?

With a goalie in net who you have no idea where the rebound will end up on any given shot and Kevin Bahl as your partner, the job isn't easy

I don’t think people want to hear it but Seider is painfully overrated imo. He’s not elite defensively or offensively. Great Calder season but hasn’t taken a step since then.

i think Seider is more than capable of being a number one "elite" defenceman he just needs help, look at makar with byram or toews, if you toss either of them on his left side i dont think we are having this conversation, not to mention Seider is only 22 being asked to do basically everything and has lots of time to improve

Damn that is a lot of average talent paid more than they should. Maybe the Yzerplan isn’t working out haha

I think the Yzerplan is draft and develop. All of these players I believe to be placeholders. Still need to ice a team.
On those contacts, yeah not great. I didn't move the Maatta extension, he's alright. The Chiarot contract though, I hated it then, I hate it more now. Compher was okay in my opinion, the market dictated that one. That is also the case with Chiarot. Look at his free agent class, not alot of anyone available, likely had to overpay. I would have preferred more money with shorter term. Petry trade was just cause we needed another righty and he was cheap. Holl I was expecting more with him being in a lesser roll, a bit disappointing.
It's not worth paying to move them and the buy-outs are still too long.
Looking at the free agent class this year, not alot available either. Roy is the only one that interests me. I would sign Tanev if he goes the market but man, that would be another bad contract I bet. I also feel like he extends with the team he gets traded to.
There are literally 9 defensemen this year that interest me, most will be signed and if not we'll want too big of deals.

I think he has the potential too for sure and can certainly still develop, but he isn't that right now and the league wide narrative is that he is

The team is guilty of deferring to Kane. You especially notice it on the power play. Making that extra pass to Kane when the better scoring opportunity is right there.

Good for him. Better than last season. But do you really notice Raymond when he's not playing with Larkin?

Personally, I'd have bigger aspirations for a 4th overall pick than being a 55-60 point player.
