Doesn’t make sense for the Blues. Hayes is cheaper, has more term, and plays a more valuable position. They may as well trade him for futures anyway since they’re erring toward a retool.

Fair comment, and what I expected.
Wasn't sure if Kuzmenko's play last year along with his younger age may sway them, but I figured it would probably be declined.

Youth is valuable when it comes with term or cost-control, which doesn’t apply to Kuzmenko’s situation. They also already have Buchnevich who is a UFA at the same time and is much more valuable to the team.

When I referenced Kuzmenko as being younger, the intention was he may be a fit there to resign if STL was a fit (I know they are rebuilding) or a more attractable asset to flip if he bounces back later this season or next. There is still a year left on Kuzmenko's deal, and plenty expect a change of scenery would do him well. Last year he was was great but even in this slump year he is playing at a 21 goal 50 point pace, and playing consistently in the top six in STL he could potentially significantly increase those numbers. He's a very good candidate for at least a partial bounce back, and even a partial bounce back puts in the 30 goal 60-65 point range.

Easy pass for both sides.
STL can keep Hayes.
Kuzmenko is a keeper and he’s not going anywhere.

Is this remon's secondary account or did you just steal his catch phrase ,"He's a keeper"?

I'm also a Canucks fan and a Kuzmenko fan. That said he isn't fitting Tocchet's system and if this team is in a window (as some believe they are), then I say there is a decent chance they flip him for an asset that can help them win now. Hayes would provide more center depth and options in the top 6, while saving the team 2M a season.

Personally, I would rather keep Kuzmenko until the end of the season to see if he bounces back, however if he is available and if STL were open to this deal, then it's a trade I would strongly consider based on what his current value likely is.

Fingers cross he’s going to do well in 2024 with Vancouver.
