That's a lot of retention on both guys, Bjorkstrand has a pretty fair contract so to get that kind of retention I'd think you'd have to cough up one more decent piece.

The 1st is good but Kakko is having a rough year and is looking more like a reclamation project then anything else, Jones and Berard have little to no value so don't add much to the trade so to get both Bjorkstrand and Gourde with that much retention you'll have to add at least one more really good piece imo.

Wouldn’t mind this at all. Trading Kakko makes sense if it’s for two top 6 contributors with more upside as well as the futures. Personally not in favor of NYR making seismic changes this deadline but wouldn’t mind some savvy work like this.

Berard is simply younger (still developing) version of Gourde. Gourde didn’t break through to the NHL till his mid 20s, Berard is only 21 putting up better AHL numbers than Gourde did at the same age.
