Description
Zac Jones doesn’t seem to be cut out for the grind of playoff hockey. Could see him moved in a deal for a higher tier player this deadline. Would like to get a physical vet with playoff experience as the 7th d for a cheap cap hit and late round pick

NYR
  1. Seeler, Nick
  2. Staal, Marc
Additional Details:
Seeler probably cost too much. Staal had good run with Florida last year
PHI

NYR
  1. Scandella, Marco
Additional Details:
Would need a lot of space and retention. Not ideal unless other moves are minor
STL
7.
NYR
  1. Edmundson, Joel
Additional Details:
If they fall out of contention come deadline could be a solid pickup but may cost too much trading with rival
WSH
8.
NYR
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya
Additional Details:
Probably will be too high demand to price us out of the race for him

Jones is difficult, as he'll be finishing his 5th pro season with just 10 games or so a year in the NHL.

Hard to gauge his value. And it dependson whether that team is deep at his position.

As for PHI who has alot of LD, Seeler probably gets a 3rd and 5th from somebody quite easily, and the difference in NYR and say TB might be 10 spots, so I cant really say that Jones and a 5th from NYR beats TB for a 3rd and 5th.

Staal could be had for a 6th and 7th quite easily though

The problem with jones is that he’s only played barely 10 nhl games each of his seasons, so no one really knows what he has to offer. He’s a good puck mover and has offense tools, but he’s defense isn’t the best because of his size. He would be better on a rebuilding team to just play a lot of games and see if he can sink or swim

Exactly, tough to tell what he may become, but as he enters his 6th pro season its hard to gauge how much value he has, and to what teams. LD is not as desired a commodity as RD, and below average 3rd pairing LD also doesn;t help his value. Many of the teams above, if not all have better options at 3rd pairing LD, (as you can see vets are very cheap for that same position).

My best comparison is he is a younger smaller version of Gus. Right now the rangers are comfortably in 1st and should give a guy like Lindgren some rest and give Jones more games

Jones is already too good for the AHL so it makes no sense for him to go back there

Plus he’d have to clear waivers and surely get claimed if they put him up
