How do the Leafs make it work

Created by: Byrr
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 2, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So the panel in the intermission was saying the 2 sides are close and feel Nylander could be announced as early as this week in a 11 milish aav for 8 years. There's going to be a lot of 'how do the Leafs make it work?' coming so here's an approximation of how they make it work without using specific UFAs to fill the holes next season.

There will be problems. That 3C spot is an easy place to see trouble but it's something they can figure out as they go. Hildeby being an NHL worthy option would help a lot.

Wanted Willy on the west coast next year but I love that he might have this choice and the Leafs pay prolly close to 2 mil more AAV then they would have in July.

I agree with the AAV but not the term…should be 4 to 5 years.

I think they ask Marner to waive is NMC after the playoffs in almost any case.

Congrats Willy Styles!

Oh and re your lineup I think Minten over Holmberg and also Cowan makes the team out of camp.

Ya, it's probably Minten at 3C pushing Kampf down but I wanted to make it easy to digest with as little opinion as possible rather than have rookies making the team or naming specific UFAs for the holes.

What's with 6m for Brodie. Leafs have cap next year for 11m Nylander if they want. Need another NHL centre, even if it's Domi.

Ya that makes total sense…who do you think the goalie could be, I truly have no idea beyond Woll, Jones If he comes back and Hildeby…maybe Talbot?

Driedger is coming off a lot of injuries in Seattle. We'll see how the rest of his season goes but he's someone I'd keep an eye on who might want a bigger spotlight on a short term deal. Really though there are a ton of 'B' level goalies who are UFAs next season. There will be a lot of options. Mrazek, Driedger, Francouz, Lankinen, DeSmith, Brossoit, Nedeljkovic, Raanta, Stolarz, Talbot, Wedgewood, Quick if he wants another go. Hell, even Jones has been a serviceable goalie so far this year if he wants to stick around for another one. I think it's more who will make the cap work rather than who the goalie will be.

Jones is a saviour…pun intended…at the moment. Perfect 2/3G behind Woll…plus Hildeby is waiver exempt…hope he plays tomorrow…Samsonov bounces back next year but not on the Leafs
