Uptrending 1st rounder Broberg for Similar Prospect

Created by: SwarmChair
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 7, 2024
Published: Jan. 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Philip Broberg who was picked 8th overall for his elite combination of skating and size/range is finally getting real ice time to show what he can do. Buried for years behind an Oilers Defence he was too inexperienced for; he is now playing huge minutes in the AHL to show off what he’s got. Accordingly, he just played the “best game of his career” this week. See the scouting report here: https://oilersnation.com/news/edmonton-oilers-prospect-report-the-best-game-of-philip-brobergs-career

As much as this does not make sense. The Oilers will be playing Kulak in the playoffs regardless of how well Broberg does. Cause Kulak has proven to be super effective in the playoffs and can even fill in for Nurse on 1st pair if Nurse gets suspended again.
Oilers would be looking for two things if Broberg is traded, either:

1. A high pedigree prospect within similar prospect profile in return for Broberg. That is, a high pedigree, possibly former 1st round pick, that needs a change of scenery. Forwards are preferable. But a RD prospect is also considerable.

2. A cheap cap hit player with term that can step in and help todays Oiler roster right now. RD, 3C, or RW is preferable.

Best offer takes former 8th overall pick Broberg.

Wahlstrom is used as an example in the deal as he has been offered for Broberg in the past and fits the profile of what the Oilers would expect in return.

Sorry I’m just talking about the world of Capfriendly. Where Wahlstrom has been offered by NYI fans multiple times. Wahlstrom is in the dog house in NYI so the offers make sense. He also fits a need for the Oilers at RW and has similar prospect profile to Broberg.

I would still do that trade as an Isles fan. If we can get anything for Wahlstrom it’d be great but the Isles have completely destroyed his value. Wahlstrom has definitely struggled some, but the Isles have let him down more than vise versa.

I get the idea here but if I'm Edmonton I'd keep Broberg over trading him for Wahlstrom.

The Oilers should've had him in the AHL last season playing big minutes in all situations instead of yo-yoing between the Oilers 3rd pair, the pressbox and Bakersfield, **** sakes they're so bad at developing their prospects.

Yeh Broberg should have been playing minutes in the AHL last year and this year. They wanted to bring him up and give him his shot cause his first stint in the AHL was already dominant. In hindsight it was a mistake to bring him up hoping he’d play… then not playing him. Oilers will likely keep him if a fair return isn’t offered but I think if Broberg gets traded and that team lets him cook in the AHL for a year they’ll have themselves a long time top 4D.
