This is a really misinformed view.
Re: Tkachuk
A $9.5M salary in Florida = $5,798,410 take home salary after tax.
A $11.5M salary in Ontario = $5,376,700 take home salary after tax
Re: Pastrnak
Both have very similar deals. Nylander is $0.25M more and the cap will be $4.5M more in the season his contract starts than Pastrnak.
Pastarnak was coming off a 40 goal and 77 point season and was in the middle of what became a 60 goal 113 point season when he signed.
Nylander is coming off 40 goals and 87 points and is on pace for 46 goals and 119 point season.
Re: Aho
Carolina shouldn't be used as a comparison their owner is super cheap. Rob Brind'Amour was being paid the lowest salary of any coach at $600k till his last contract expired and they only brought him up to $1.8M despite being seen as a top coach. From what I can find the only lower paid coach is Luke Richardson at $1.5M. When your owner's position is leave or take less, some leave and some take less. They have stall at under $3M, its just absurd.
All that being said, the fundamental problem has always been Marner. $11M for Tavares as a UFA was fair, SJ was offering $13M, he's been a PPG player the whole deal, it's a great contract. Matthews could have taken less but he isn't horribly overpaid. The issue was $11M for Marner. He should have been at $8M, if he had been then Nylander wouldn't have started this negtiation by saying "I want more than Marner".
