I dont want this but expect it

Created by: jazzykiwi
Team: 2023-24 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 12, 2024
Published: Jan. 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
While I don’t want this to happen. I could see it happening. The only team that makes sense to move Kuzy to SJ and I could see it being for Hertl. SJ gets out of that awful contract and gets some good pieces back and the caps get a good 1C who will probably be good for another 2-3 years during the rest of Ovie career before becoming an anchor contract. Getting Ferraro is the. Piece that makes it more palatable

I think the owner/GM/fans need to start convincing the coach to open up the flood gates and play full tilt offense, the low scoring Caps will still miss the playoffs meanwhile their hero Ovie will be lucky to reach 15 goals this year, Ovie needed a 35+ goal season for a realistic shot at Gretzky record, we can all see Ovie will end about 40 goals short of the record if this path continues.

It's like Ovechkin aged over the summer.

I thought he had a shot at Gretzky's goals record last season.

Father Time is undefeated.

Still what a great F'ing career. 😁

Ovie needs to skate and drive to the net like Crosby, this will be Sid's 3rd time in his career he will outscore Ovie in a season.

I personally have never needed to see that happen (although it would be cool), I just hope they can reshape the team in the next couple that they can avoid a total 'classic' rebuild. When I see what teams go thru to get good again, it can be very frustrating, long, and painful to watch.

Ovie needs to skate and drive to the net like Crosby, this will be Sid's second time in his career he will outscore Ovie in a season.

He’s too slow now. He basically just needs a center to help win pucks and make plays. His shots have also been way off this season too for some reason

I've heard some speculate that he came in to camp not in the greatest shape. If true, no wonder a 38 yr old man is struggling to keep up with 25 years olds...wink

I've heard more than a few commentators say they should put him around the net more. Good observation.

He also switched sticks for the first time in like a decade. Idk I feel like it may also be something carberrys system. Every single player is having a down year. But I think it’s more their best center is Strome who is more of a solid 2nd line center with shoot first mentality. He’s always been better with a set up guy. Although Hertl isn’t really a setup guy he does win pucks pretty well which is important when ovi doesn’t forecheck

Don't know if you saw but Staal (Carolina) accidentally fell on his left leg like almost full weight. I think Ovi is skating in a lot of pain right now. He did skip two practices also. This has made him even slower right now. I think after January 27th the Caps will have 12 calendar days off with the All Star break and I think you will see him playing better after that as it will give him full time to heal.

If I was Washington, I would those players to somebody else besides SJ, in my opinion.

Ovie should try the Andreychuck style of goal scoring this late into his career.

Andreychuck was known for standing near the goalie's crease and either tipping pucks, scoring on rebounds, basicly he was a master of the "garbage" goals.

They can only get someone by getting rid of Kuzy and no one is taking Kuzy without giving away a similar piece for nothing. Hertl would at least be an improvement over Kuzy for a couple season at a similar cap hit

I am of the view that the Caps shouldn't go get Ovi a center to go for the goals record. I think what you have might work for that but to give futures (Caps don't have many) for that reason to me would be not wise. Again if the org/owner whoever has that as the main goal, getting Hertl would be a great add for that purpose.
