Selling While Also Going All In

Created by: la_scaloneta
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 12, 2024
Published: Jan. 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Lafrenière, Alexis
  2. Miller, K'Andre
  3. 2024 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
I would target Lafreniere because Pittsburgh needs a Hornqvist type of player who is a forechecking menace and net-front presence - I believe playing with Sid can take his game up a new level

Miller would do well away from Trouba and alongside Letang
NYR
  1. Guentzel, Jake
  2. 2024 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Torts would love to have Acciari on his team
2.
PIT
  1. Johansen, Ryan
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Colorado gives a 3rd for 50% attention on Smith from a third party

Johansen is a cap dump but he could be a Bonino-type player for Pittsburgh (good hands, playmaking, elusive player in transition and can be trusted to win puck battles)
3.
PIT
  1. Poehling, Ryan
Additional Details:
Poehling could be a poor man’s Hagelin for us with his blazing speed, transition ability and forechecking
PHI
  1. Acciari, Noel
Additional Details:
Acciari would be a favorite if Torts
4.
5.
PIT
  1. Marner, Mitchell
  2. Samsonov, Ilya
Additional Details:
Marner has a lot of similarities to Conor Sheary, I believe a line with him, Crosby and Lafreniere could be a better version of the 2016 playoffs first line

Samsonov is the worst goalie in the league but I believe a change of scenery could be good for him, as his struggles are psychological vs physical
6.
TBL
Waivers - he could be our version of Ben Lovejoy

The Marner trade is beyond hideous.

Marner has a NMC. Carter has a NMC.

    Leafs are getting fleeced hard.

How many drinks would you have to force down the throats of Drury and Treliving to even consider these trades

Tbh I think Carter would be happy to return to Toronto and retire.

Well Carter for Samsonov is essentially cap dump for dump.

Graves would be good for Toronto because they need defencemen, and Jarry is a top goalie.

The Guentzel trade is not my idea, it was suggested by a friend.

    Same with the Marner trade.

and the leafs are getting the more expensive cap dump, Graves is not very good and his contract is pretty bad and Jarry is not nearly good enough, cheap enough or young enough to even start a Marner conversation.

Well, Graves led the NHL in plus minus twice in the last 4 seasons no? Seems he is pretty good.

Let's ignore Carter himself saying repeatedly "I'm tired of moving my family. I'm not waiving my NMC."

But I guess he's going to Toronto because you say so. 🙄

if you're using +/- you might as well tell people he lead the league in counting his toes, it means the exact same thing in respect to his actual abilities.

Nope, not interested even a little
We don’t need a 3rd pair LD, which is why i previously said,
    “We might take a pick”

Otherwise, we are happy with the depth he provides in Rochester for us

I remember as a kid I was in swimming lessons. I came home and the Iran Contra hearings were on. 😁

Ollie North became my hero. Whenever I got in trouble at school I just kept saying "I don't recall."

it means he played on a good offensive team and his goalie made a lot of saves when he was on the ice. that's it. nothing more

Connor McDavid has multiple seasons with a +/- below 0

+/- is *literally* as useless as GAA when it comes to assessing value

Oh boy… Where do I begin..?

Rangers easily decline. You’re not getting Laf, that’s a simple fact.

Avs would maybe accept only if they win the Elias Lindholm sweepstakes at TDL.

Pens decline Philly. First of all, WHY WOULD TWO RIVALS TRADE WITH EACHOTHER? Second, PIT SENT POEHLING TO FREE AGENCY, WHY WOULD THEY WANT HIM BACK? Dude sucked with us and was injured alot. Absolutely no reason why Pens would want him back.

Sabres decline. They’ll give you Bryson for a draft pick, not for Shea.

The Toronto trade… oh boy. The only part of that trade that makes only a minuscule amount of sense is Carter for Samsonov (as it’s basically a cap dump for a cap dump), and even then Carter can easily be like “I’ll just use my NMC lol. I ain’t going there!” If you genuinely think that’ll net you Marner, then Treliving will block your number.

Waivers with TBL is just a waiver scenario. Not sure how good he is or how well he’d work with the team, so I can’t really say much there.

    That Toronto trade though…

Rangers wouldn’t trade one of miller or laf let alone both AND 1st rd for Jake, or any rental. It could be McDavid and they wouldn’t do it

This is quite possibly the worst trade offer I’ve ever seen, congrats you’ve done it 😂
