Trade ideas are 1 thing but cannot ignore the cap.

Cannot see why Monahan stays a Hab & fully expect he is dealt. Idk why Habs take picks unless packaging them to move up in the draft. The offer is close but probably out bid.

Tanev trade no thx

I would tend to think this would not get it done for Monahan. I think Hughes would want Vancouver’s first (which should be in the mid to late 20s (or #31 or 32 if things go really well for Vancouver this year) in 2024. As said by Nighthawk above, the offer is likely outbid.

Hinges on some cap relief through LTIR. Price for Monahan is at least a 2nd given other interested teams. He’s shown versatility to play center and wing, something Canucks have said they value. Plays with enough defensive conscious and two way ability to fit into system as well as add some offensive. Strengthens their top six at a low cap hit. Price for Tanev is already out there as a 1st. Canucks 1st is low and they would be foolish not to use it to bolster what might be their best shot at a run to the cup. Tanev brings veteran experience, shot blocking and playoff style depth to their D. Price goes up with the retention. Could try for a conditional 2nd that becomes a 1st if Canucks make final.
