SOME players need to start pulling their weight though. Looking at Johnny and Laine. So much cap invested in two players playing no where near their potential.

That said the CBJ do have some good young pieces.

Regarding Elvis though. Maybe he’s better on another team. Maybe. But it’s not a guarantee. There’s no way to know for sure from an acquiring GM.

He does have talent though. That can’t be denied. But so does Samsonov. Talent isn’t always everything, especially with goaltenders. Mental stability, consistency of focus also plays a big part. Go watch how Hellybuck or Vasi go about their business in a calm and cool demeanor. That’s the risk of Elvis.

Then consider that Elvis is paid 5.4M with term. That’s a tall ask for any team to take on, on a maybe.

There are no guarantees and goalies are voodoo. Samsonov absolutely justified his contract with last year's play, and fell off the edge. Elvis' outlier season seems to be last year, but who knows. He's got a decent body of work, and chances are good you'll get goaltending that's at least passable. The only guarantee is that it's at $5.4M for the next 3+ seasons, which is something I'm sure only a few GMs would take.

As for his demeanor, he's a rockstar who's always confident, and he's level-headed as long as there's no Tom Wilson sized obstructions in his net.

I don’t know about that body of work. His best season remains his rookie season which was 5 years again. He was a goalie brought over from Europe and new to the League, therefore not scouted yet. Once scouted his numbers have been mid. A similar situation happened to Koskinen who was the KHL’s best goalie. Played great his first year, earned a huge contract, then he never lived up to and then became a cap dump.

On his demeanor. If it’s just Tom Wilson, then what happened in practice when he and his own teammate I think Marchenko nearly threw down?
