TDL 24

Created by: patnaisnyquil
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 18, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Idc about your opinions, what you think is fair or not, it's what I think could happen at the TDL.

Habs fans: we would have a real tanking team for the last stretch, an extra 1st and Barlow. Xhekaj gets called up and we give Huston and/or Reinbacher a couple of games at the end of the season. I'd also give a shot to Heineman. Next season, we would have a young core of Caufield, Suzuki, Slaf, Dach, Roy, Newhook, maybe Farrell, Ghule, Hutson, Reinbacher + the two 2024 first picks, Barlow, Mesar, Mailloux and Beck in the AHL.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Barlow, Colby
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Monahan, Sean ($985,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Lots of teams will go after Monahan and I dont think Winnipeg will want to pay the price for Lindholm. Monahan has 27 pts in 44g on a garbage team with great term on his contract, so Winnipeg would still need to pay a steep price. Imo Barlow is the only prospect I could see being moved ahead of Lambert, McGroarty, Lucius or Perfetti. I think Hughes will prioritize getting a prospect instead of a 1st.
2.
MTL
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (NJD)
  2. 2025 6th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
It doesnt have to be NJ, but I'm sure a team with struggling goaltending will take a shot at Allen during the TDL. The 6th pick would be sent to another team taking a part of Allen's salary to make the cap work.
3.
MTL
  1. Faksa, Radek
  2. 2024 1st round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Savard, David
Additional Details:
I dont think Savard is gonna be moved, but he's having a career year, is a RD, and a number of teams need a big, strong, defensive RD for a cup run. Imo Dallas makes the most sense. I dont think he's worth a 1st, but if Hughes has to take on Faksa's cap dump, the pick becomes a 1st.

I am not sure if Winnipeg would trade Barlow. I think that the Jets might do a first this year, since the team is doing so well in the standings and it would likely be a late first round pick (depending on playoff success) but Barlow was drafted 18th overall in a very good draft year. I would be surprised if Winnipeg traded him 1 year after drafting him (it is kind of a bad message to the players when they draft them, in my opinion). If it did happen i think that Barlow alone would be a good enough return for Montreal.

- Put out the retention on Monahan, and can be great. Also, I don't really Winnipeg sending Barlow like that in my opinion.

- Allen will receive this type of return only if Montreal retain 50% of his salary.

- I'm rather keeping Savard for our young players than trading him. Also, I think that Kovacevic will gonna be traded at the TDL before Savard.

No one gives up a top prospect for a rental.

I could see someone picking up Monahan as low end depth, but he's not returning a top prospect plus.

That's just silly.

I don’t think there’s a great chance we’re retaining on Monahan. We’ve used up two of our three slots and he’s under 2M. If we retain it’s on a bigger contract that we should move.

Also Cheveldayoff doesn’t lose trades. I think he could get more for Barlow. I’d love it if it happened, as a Habs fan, but I don’t see it.
