Guentzel is a great player. If an extension isn't progressing, Pitt may look to sell. A recent rental, for a less prolific but good player, Andrew Coop netted a conditional first, second, fifth and Morgan Barron (good bottom six player with some upside).

Now being greedy, would Pitt entertain trading two forwards? Unlikely, but working this from a value perspective and two trades in one.

Geuntzel for 1st, 2nd, Raty and Brzustewicz. Compared to Copp, I'd say more value in return.

Smith for Kuz + Suter. I'd argue Kuz and Suter is a bit more value than Smith but helps regarding value for Geuntzel.

Pitt would need two capable forwards to replace the two exiting (Kuz + Suter, both with another year on their contracts). Between salaries swapped and retention, Pitt nets an additional $1.2M in cap space. However that pro-rates during the season, I'm unsure. But, with the additional assets and cap space, it's possible Dubas could wheel and deal like he loves to do in another deal. On the other hand, he could simply carry the roster forward to next year, use that space and the cap bump, to improve the forward depth.

I'm probably just spit balling to make this sound good but some perspective for Pitt fans.

Of course, I like it from a Van perspective for this season only. It would impact the future as I don't see how they re-sign Geuntzel.
