Pens in-season retool

Created by: PensGMwannabe
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2024
Published: Jan. 30, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
LA is said to be in the market for a gritty forward for Kaliyev. Acciari and Nedelkovic should both interest LA.

Jake, I wish I had another team to trade him to. I'm sick of seeing the same old proposals. Wonder what a team like Dallas would offer? For now, it's the same proposals.

That's not what Friedman said about Kaliyev. He said that if the Kings could fill Kaliyev's roster spot with a gritty forward, then Kaliyev would be expendable and could be moved for whatever return. He did not say that the Kings were going to trade Kaliyev for a gritty forward. The Kings arguably have those players in the system already. Akil Thomas is probably next man up from the AHL. After that, they could bring up Taylor Ward or Sam Helenius.

I don't see the Kings having interest in either Acciari or Nedeljkovic. The former is too expensive, and there are better rental options available than the latter (my choices would be Lindgren from Washington or Lankinen from Nashville).

So give up on this season and try again with a core that's yet another year older and you don't a 40 goal scoring ppg winger? Brilliant.

This is just for the deadline. Off-season you can deal with moving more out.

What do you want to do with Jake? give him an 8 year deal and continue the mediocrity?

So you give up on an MVP level season for Crosby to get a couple futures? Of course you sign Jake. Once Sid retires you retain and see who you can trade him to.

What if they remain 6 points out of the playoffs come deadline time? What if Jake doesn't want to re-sign here? Jake is going to want big bucks and want to play on a contender.
