If Monahan got MTL a first rounder, feels like Dowd should too. Dowd is way better defensively, marginally worse offensively, and has another year left on his contract at an affordable rate. Dowd is also better than Goodrow was, and SJ got a first rounder for him a few years back

Dowd and monahan are not similar offensively. I highly doubt the caps can get a 1st but I’d love to see it

I don't think they're similar offensively, but when you look at Monahan's quality of linemates (mostly with Josh Anderson and Jake Evans, and Gallagher and Pearson), he's playing with more offensively gifted forwards than Dowd (Malenstyn and NAK). With the center trade market as thin as it is, a team looking to get an elite 4C who can move up to 3C in a pinch, I bet a first or a second with a decent prospect isn't out of the question
