I'd do that in a heartbeat for EP, but I'm not even slightly convinced he won't extend in Vancouver

Kings don't have almost 6m in cap space to take anyone on and if they did they wouldn't pursue Atkinson. Arvidsson is about to come back and when he does the Kings won't be able to even keep scratches around because of how little cap space they have. Once Arvidsson comes back they have around 100k in cap space with a 20-man roster. Kings decline this trade.

I left out it would've been 50% retained, and with the cap hit being even lower half way through the season, I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving up a 3rd. No downside to adding a respected veteran guy who can score, injuries happen all the time as you clearly have shown.

Even at 50% retained as I just explained with Arvidsson coming back there is literally no cap space. Additionally if the Kings had about 3m in cap space to use they wouldn't go after Atkinson.

Yeah Arvidsson is back, what happens when someone else goes down and you're down 2-1 in the playoffs, you wanna bring up a rookie??? His cap hit is basically 1.5mm, you guys can easily shed that. Can never have too much depth in the playoffs, and you guys have an unreal defense, but can't put the puck in the back of the net. Ergo, get cheap, experienced scoring. Kings fans should be happy to not have you in charge of the team. He also has an expiring contract next year and will be less than 3mm for that year, so no worries about the cap space. Or just waste another year by not supplementing your lineup for anything unforeseen happening.

Bro Atkinson has a 5.8m cap hit, at 50% retained the team still gets hit with 2.9m in cap. The Kings have 100K in cap space, what part of this cap space thing are you not understanding? Even if Atkinson got double retained 50% by PHI and 50% by someone else the Kings still can't fit him on the roster. Unless the Kings trade or send down Avidsson/Moore/Fiala/Kempe then Atkinson doesn't fit on the roster at 1.5m and all those guys are far more valuable than Atkinson could possibly be. So yes if someone goes down in the playoffs the Kings have no choice but to call up a rookie which is exactly why they have been playing JAD Fa-g-emo Laferriere and Kaliyev all season long as a precaution.

Vancouver easily matches that offer sheet on Elias Pettersson.

laugh And what a joke of an offer for Matt Roy, Try more like 5 x $5,500,000 for Roy at the very least.

Yeah I could have lowballed him, not sure how the market would be for one really good year for a mostly defensive dman turning 30 years old - but I could be a mil-ish off there. I thought the term would've off set that. We'll see for sure.

Roy will have tons of suitors this summer if LA doesn't re-sign him, 4 x $5,500,000 to 4 x $6,000,000 wouldn't be out of the question.
