My guess a deal will get done before the trade is completed. I forgot to add in the extension. With Bahl, Mcleod, Foote, Bastian, and Noesk gone after this year, it would free up some money.

The Devils have Hamiliton, Sieg, Hughes, Marino, Nemec, and Bahl for next season. Why bring in another top 4 guy on D? Just sign a 6th/7th Dman to fill in for injuries.

“Extension in place” isn’t a real thing that adds meaningful value to UFAs, besides I wouldn’t give Hanifin 8 years until I’ve seen how he fits with the team.

And even with an extension, still not putting holtz into the deal
