why would philadelphia take on campbells contract for nothing? sure ownership save a chunk of cash but they're not willingly taking on a 5 million dollar paperweight

PHI has the whole Hart issue, Petersen isn't impressing anyone and from what I see management can save actual dollars while giving Campbell the opportunity to be an NHLer again. Worst case they buy Campbell out in the summer once Lindblom's off the books and save even more. It's 100% an ownership deal but the risk may be worth it for the Flyers. If Campbell finds his form the can buy out Petersen.

Comcast won't care about 2.9M in savings over three years, especially if insurance is covering some of Ellis' paychecks. Doubtful Campbell would have any resale value as the backup in Philadelphia.

The only thing stopping Campbell from being on the Oilers right now is the streak and his cap hit. He's been 0.931 since Dec. 30th. There's no reason that teams shouldn't be giving him a look.
Is Ellis even insured?

5M x 4 years for a 32 year old goaltender putting up sub .900 SV% at the NHL level isn't really enticing. I'm fairly certain Ellis' contract is insured per multiple articles. Even then, Hilferty/Briere/Jones/Torts won't want to take on his contract without compensation coming back, outside of the real 2.9M in savings.

In the 5 games that Campbell played this season he had a better save% than Skinner had during the same stretch. It was the team.

campbell's sv% since feb 2022 is below .880, there is no chance that contract leaves without multiple high draft picks

not really - the last half of his last year in toronto. sv% was above .930 and was near top of league in gsax (ended with a negative gsax). had to battle to keep sv% above .910 in last 15 games

sv% on original reply should have been .890, but does not change fact that no one is trading for campbell in hopes of him being a quality nhl starter, and no backup is going to make 5 million

You keep bringing up irrelevant dates!
His recent play has been significantly improving and his start to this season was actually better than Skinner. EDM and Woodcroft's system change was awful!

0.888 SV% in 36 games in 2022-23 and even worse in his first 5 games. Regardless of how poorly EDM was playing, he's contract is an albatross and wouldn't be ahead of Ersson in the depth chart. If EDM wants to move on from him, draft picks will have to be attached for PHI to be interested.
